Project Gutenberg (PG) is a free online resource that contains ebook and audio versions of works that are in the public domain. This means the copyright on the item has expired. Books copyrighted before 1923 are considered to be in the public domain. Generally speaking, a work is considered out of copyright 70 years after the author’s death in the United States.
PG is searchable by title, author and subject. You can also narrow results down by ebook or audio (not every title has an audio component). These ebooks can be read online or downloaded to your computer or e-reader.
When the library does not have a physical copy or a copy in ebrary and you do not have the time to wait for inter-library loan, Project Gutenberg could be your answer for older, classic works.
