Come join us on Wednesday, October 31st–that’s tomorrow–for a student open reading in the library open area from 12:30-1:30pm. We hope to see you there!
Here’s an interesting resource for all you musicians out there. The International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) contains 60,000 works that are in the public domain in Canada. One can do a keyword search for works by composer or title. You can browse using these categories too, in addition to browsing by time period, nationality, melody, instrument and genre. IMSLP also includes recordings; these are either in the public domain or are included under a creative commons license.
This letter A is not only the IMSLP’s logo, it is also from one of the first printed books of music, dating from 1501.
The National Book Awards, awarded each November, recently released the list of finalists for this year’s awards. The library owns Cynthia Huntington’s Heavenly Bodies, which is a finalist in the poetry category; we also own three other titles of hers. While the library does not own the other nominated titles, we would be happy to place an interlibrary loan request for them. Just stop by the circulation desk or use our online ILL form to do so.
Check out the new items we added in September.
